Adult Swim's Top New Show of 2025 Earns a Substantial Renewal for Two More Seasons.

In October of last year, the late-night programming block saw the return of its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. However, shortly thereafter, the channel launched a completely new animated series with a strikingly different feel. Haha, You Clowns was gentle and comforting, evoking a cartoon version of a contemplative talk show. During a period often characterized by bleakness, this show's earnestness resonated deeply and propelled it a surprise hit.

A Two-Season Greenlight

In mid-December, Adult Swim confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two more seasons. This provides showrunner Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to further explore the world of the Campbell family. The show centers on three respectful teenage brothers whose defining trait is their profound affection for their single father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four key characters.

"I am incredibly thankful to the fans of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and shared it with others," stated Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for seasons to come."

A President's Endorsement

Accompanying the news laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and oddly captivating." He shouted out the fans who found the show and championed its distinctly quirky style.

"All of you got behind this new show, rooted for it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Comforting Counterpoint

When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a gentle counterpart" to other adult animated fare. There’s something surprisingly comfy about following this endearing family go about their everyday routines.

In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa expressed his desire to move the comedy genre beyond its prevailing layer of irony. He linked this trend to a broader media landscape.

“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we are trapped in,” said Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we must laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”

The Path Forward

Now, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa has the opportunity to catalyze that comedic shift. At a minimum, the renewal ensures audiences more opportunities to bask in the gentle humor of the beloved Campbell clan.

The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The complete first season is available for streaming on HBO Max.
