Battlefield 6's Relaxed Playlist Ignites Heated Debates Over Bots, Experience Points, and Wait Times
Recently, the game developers introduced a new playlist called Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this mode mirrors the standard Breakthrough format but features several key changes:
- Every squad has just eight real players, with the rest filled by 32 bots.
- Actions performed by human gamers award full XP, while AI activities offer lower rewards.
- Just a pair of maps are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
- Features like Dogtags, achievements, and career stat updates have been turned off.
So essentially, this mode lives up to its name: it offers a casual version of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume it's a good idea, as it gives more options for players seeking alternative methods to enjoy the game. But, gaming history have taught us anything, it's that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, a lot of Battlefield 6 players are mad.
Player Responses: Anger to Praise
"People want human opponents. Don't repeat the mistakes of your rivals," states a response to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing idea," says another. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user remarks, "I have no idea where we are headed with this title," while someone else details everything they consider to be problematic in the game: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this bot mode."
However, for every complaint, some gamers sharing how much they're liking the new mode. "It's very fun to warm up, real players prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," reads a forum post. "The community doesn't understand that there are players who actually go outside and don't play this game 24/7. Let them strike a balance," adds a different comment. A response via social media clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," and another applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Constructive Criticisms and Player Input
Despite the support, there are valid points to complain about the new mode. A few folks have pointed out that it will make wait times even longer for other modes because of the sheer number of playlists currently available. On a similar note, some areas often face AI-filled matches in the current modes. It also seems a little backwards that the mode won't start without a minimum number of human gamers, even though it focuses mostly on combat against bots.
Lastly, one of the biggest grievances is that Battlefield Portal was promised to provide complete rewards, even against bots, but that was removed when they tried to remove XP farming from the system. So this new playlist feels like the community meeting them in the middle, as per forum feedback. Another describes this addition as the developers "dropping the ball so hard, I experienced so much fun in the first couple of days, what prompted them to adjust it?"
Looking Ahead: Adjustments Be Made?
If Battlefield Studios has proven anything so far with Battlefield 6, it's that they're listening and acting on player input. Tasks that were overly hard were adjusted rapidly, as did the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, should analytics indicates this recent mode isn't performing to their standards, they will not hesitate to change it again.
