Fall Classic Game 7 Draws Over 50 Million Viewers In the United States, Canadian and Japanese Regions.

The exciting extended contest that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Toronto Blue Jays by one run drew a total 51 million watchers across the United States, Canadian, and Japan territories. MLB reported this represents the highest-rated World Series Game 7 since the 1991 showdown featuring the Twins and Braves.

Television Ratings Details

The Saturday epic game drew 27.33 million audience members on Fox Sports networks, Fox Deportes and their streaming platforms. According to ratings data, it was the second most-watched broadcast of the previous week.

It additionally stands as the top-rated World Series matchup after the 2017 final game involving the Dodgers and Astros, which drew over 29 million. This marks a sixteen percent increase compared to the last Game 7 featuring the Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19M.

In the Nielsen ratings, the sixth game ranked fourth, Game 4 was 7th, Game 5 was eighth, and the third game finished in thirteenth position.

International Audience Figures

In the Canadian market, the game averaged 11.6 million viewers on Sportsnet and the French-language TVA Sports. This made it the highest-rated English program in Canada after the 2010 edition Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the final game started at 9 p.m. local time, it drew 12 million viewers. This followed last Friday’s sixth game – where World Series MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto gave up one run in six frames – recorded over 13 million viewers, making it the highest-rated Fall Classic matchup on a single network in Japan.

Overall Averages and Patterns

The entire seven-game World Series drew over 15.7 million audience members on the Fox network, a 2% increase from the previous year’s Dodgers versus Yankees matchup. This marks the first time after 2015 and ‘16 that the World Series has seen viewership increases for two straight seasons.

Counting the opening game broadcast on Univision, the total US average was 16.1 million. The overall Fall Classic viewership in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1M in the Canadian market.

The full playoffs on Fox and its sister channels averaged 8.09 million watchers, an eight percent increase compared to the previous year and Fox’s strongest playoff ratings after the 2017 season.

Major League Baseball announced that the Fall Classic was televised in 203 nations and regions by forty-four media partners in 16 different languages.
