President Trump Calls Loved Ones of Attacked Military Personnel to the White House
President Trump revealed on Sunday that he has invited the family of a National Guard member tragically killed last week to attend the executive mansion.
He noted that he conversed with her parents and they were “heartbroken”.
Background on the Devastating Event
US army specialist Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was fatally shot in a attack on Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her colleague, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, remains hospitalized in grave state.
Gatherings across the state have been held in their remembrance.
White House Offer
The commander-in-chief said he’s discussed a meeting at the presidential residence for the families of both individuals of the state Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a hard experience, come to the White House. We’re going to recognize her,” the president told the press. “And likewise with him, no matter the outcome.”
Community Response
Mourners assembled over the weekend at a local school in the state to remember Beckstrom.
Both the soldiers had been working with the West Virginia National Guard as part of Trump’s government program to assist law enforcement in the capital.
Paying Tribute to Beckstrom
“Sarah was the type of pupil that educators wished for. She behaved with inner fortitude, a bright grin and a upbeat demeanor that lifted those around her,” the principal, the leader of Beckstrom’s previous school, informed the press. “She was caring, considerate and always eager to assist people.”
Funeral details for Beckstrom are still being arranged.
Legal Actions and Government Revisions
Law enforcement have accused a twenty-nine-year-old suspect with a charge of murder and two counts of attempted murder while armed.
The tragedy led the government to suspend asylum applications and halt providing visas to holders of passports from Afghanistan.
Status of the Airman
Andrew Wolfe, a resident of Martinsburg, enlisted in February 2019 and is a graduate of his local high school, as reported by the Associated Press.
He continues to receive treatment and is “fighting for his life”, West Virginia leader Morrisey mentioned on television.
The state’s top lawyer Bondi stated on the program that she aimed to speak to the family.
Impact of Beckstrom
Beckstrom, from Summersville, graduated from her high school in 2023 and enlisted soon after, serving as a law enforcement officer with honor, per the military.
“She had a lot of compassion and she absolutely had courage,” Morrisey informed the audience at the memorial. “Though her time was cut short, she has left a mark that’s going to endure.”
