The 'Breaking Bad' Creator Shares He Has a Plan for How Pluribus Will Conclude... For Now.

The creative mastermind did not foresee that his new science-fiction series would emerge as a breakout success. “I am so grateful to the audience,” he states. “I was surprised by the show being as talked about as it is, and it makes me thrilled beyond words.”

With the first season of the popular sci-fi show wrapping up—and the next chapter officially in the works—the creative team recently discussed the audience reaction and whether it will impact the storyline of Pluribus.

About the Tremendous Audience Reaction

One could easily to get swayed by the rampant praise and audience predictions surrounding Pluribus. He is making a conscious effort to ignore the noise.

“It's like being constantly eating something incredibly sweet and being laughing uncontrollably,” he says. “It's amazing, but I hear about it from others, and that's intentional. Never in my life Googled myself, nor do I ever plan to. It's quite the opposite. It's a rabbit hole I know I would fall into and then I'd be never leaving the house from the hardware store and I'd rarely emerge from my living room.”

In spite of trying to stay away, there’s no escaping the overwhelmingly positive response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to take it in stride and try not to let it dictate the story of the show.

“We make no attempt to change the plot,” says co-executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The plot we develop is not influenced by online forums.”

“Better to keep our heads down and working,” Gilligan adds.

The Big Question: Will Vince Gilligan Know the Conclusion of Pluribus?

Given that the writers aren’t being guided by fan response, does that mean they have already decided how Pluribus will finally conclude? Essentially yes… in a way.

“We have some interesting ideas about how the story could conclude,” he states. “but we are always ready to discard a solid concept for a superior concept. That has held us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we conceive of something superior and I imagine we will be doing that.”

On the other hand, if plans fall through, director and writer Gordon Smith has a humorous idea to use as a backup.

“My recurring proposal is that it's all in a snow globe, and that we'll zoom out in the finale and that's where they've been all along,” Smith jokes, “though the idea hasn't gained traction.”

Then again, one could always use the legendary finales?

“I'd love for Carol to open her eyes next to Bob Newhart,” he jokes.

Pluribus is streaming now on Apple TV.
