The artist has donated the entirety of his twenty-five thousand pound honor prize money to the trust for venues, which works to protect the UK's small music venues.

He was given the prize on mid-October as his latest record the album was declared the top album of the previous year.

He has opted to hand the money over to the Music Venues Trust, in recognition of the crucial part small stages had in his initial steps.

"I couldn't be pursuing my current career if it weren't for all the gigs I performed around the region, and elsewhere, when I was starting out," remarked Sam Fender. "These venues are renowned, but they are in difficulty."

Since the start of 2023, over 150 of these spaces have ceased operations – roughly one-sixth of the total UK scene.

Over the past year, major artists such as the band Pulp, Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Sheeran have all backed the trust in its initiatives to keep the scene afloat, by including a modest fee to their admission fees, which supports local stages.

Fender also took part, collecting over £100k on his recent tour to assist 38 small stages across Britain.

The money assisted venues that were facing potential shutdown due to difficulties arising from floods, fire incidents and family tragedies, as well as permit problems, conflicts and neighbor objections.

Some locations were granted monetary aid in modernizing amenities and sound and lighting systems that directly benefitted musicians and concertgoers.

"The concept that revenue from shows in large arenas helps the smaller venues, where it kicks off for artists like me, is just sensible," Sam Fender has said.

He is among several artists to contribute his Mercury Prize prize money to charitable organizations.

"I also gave a grand to Highgate Newtown, to their gymnastics class, because I did gymnastics when I was growing up and they lacked new equipment," she explained to the media.

Previously, Ezra Collective donated their funds to the community center that developed their act, alongside other grassroots music organisations.

Additionally the 1994 recipients the group donated their award to a multiple sclerosis charity after a acquaintance was identified with the illness.

"Receiving the award was ample," stated singer the singer. "The money was the cherry on top but we didn't need the extra, because we had the honor. So our success impacted another person's life."

In the past week, the Music Venues Trust revealed it had saved several local spots in south-east England, by placing them under community ownership.

The Joiners in that area and the other in Bristol were bought under the community ownership program, which is funded by the arts council and music fans who purchase "stakes" in the properties.
