The Red Devils Poised to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.

A Major Acquisition for United

The forward, with half a year left on her deal, is known as a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a major signing for the WSL side.

Her exit from Munich has been anticipated after she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the club's fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top strikers. Per reports, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.

Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen the Attack

The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a major uplift to United’s attacking options. She has been highly reliable with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Old Trafford

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club seem to be gathering momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has brought further activity:

  1. The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having arrived from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
