Tottenham Manager Frank Calls Vicario Booers 'Not Genuine Fans'
The Cottagers Begin Powerfully to Defeat Spurs and Increase Pressure on Frank
Tottenham Hotspur supporters who jeered keeper Vicario were informed later "those individuals can't be true Spurs supporters" by manager Frank.
Tottenham conceded a pair of scores in the first six minutes to fall 2-1 to Fulham, registering their 10th top-flight at home defeat of 2025.
However the main talking point was Fulham's second goal when the keeper lost the ball well beyond his box.
He ventured out to handle a long ball and took the ball near the sideline.
But, instead of booting it into touch, the Italian spun and attempted to clear, but slipped as the ball skimmed off Harry Wilson and was controlled by Josh King.
King laid the ball off to Wales midfielder Wilson, who curled a shot into the goal from the touchline measured at 36.6 yards.
Seconds later when the ball went to Vicario once more, some Tottenham supporters booed him.
The team were jeered off at the interval, with the side 2-0 down, and once more at the final whistle.
A particular of those jeering sessions really irritated the manager.
"It came to my attention a few of our fans reportedly booed the situation and jeered following, which, in my opinion is completely unjustifiable," the Danish manager commented about the supporters' reaction to his shot-stopper.
"[They] cannot be real Spurs supporters that do that. Alright booing after the match, fine, but when we are playing, we are backing one another, we are behind each other moving ahead."
Kenny Tete had handed the visitors a fourth-minute lead before Wilson's goal – with Mohammed Kudus scoring for Spurs in an improved second period showing.
Former top-flight keeper Joe Hart stated that the next score was "totally preventable".
"I certainly appreciate the supporters' disappointment," the ex-keeper added. "I am aware the part the keeper is playing. He's a excellent squad member, he is a real figure in the locker room but in the end you are going to be assessed by your decisions.
"The keeper was heavily implicated in what turned out to be the decisive goal."
'It's In the Game, I'm a Big Man'
Frank Stood Up For His Keeper Guglielmo Vicario After the Match
Italian national team Vicario is in his 3rd season with Tottenham.
He said after the match that he had to accept the criticism.
"The second goal was a mistake of my own, I accept accountability for that," he said.
"The intent was to clear the ball long and I just hit the ball in a bad manner. It was an even bigger challenge to climb."
He said receiving jeers "is part of the game".
"I'm a big man, how can I respond?" he added. "The team cannot be affected by the circumstances in the stands. The fans have the entitlement to do what they think.
"It is on us to remain increasingly composed, to concentrate on our own performance. We are missing in composure and poise to overturn outcomes. This match is a poor loss and it is tough to accept."
'It Shocked Me Nobody Went Back to the Goal Line'
In spite of the keeper's mistake, it was far from an simple goal for Wilson to score.
In fact it was the second most distant top division goal of the campaign – after Adams' forty-three point three metre strike for Bournemouth against Sunderland, which incidentally too occurred on Saturday.
Wilson stated he was "a little bit taken aback" that he still had an open net to aim for.
10 seconds elapsed between the keeper exiting of his area and Wilson shooting – which was five moments after the clearance.
"I felt like the goalkeeper was away from the box for a long time," Wilson remarked.
"I was surprised none of the back four returned to the line. When not one of them covered the net, my interest sparked a bit.
"[Destiny] Udogie slipped too, which allowed me a little extra opportunity. After that it was all about trying to achieve the correct connection and get it towards goal. I had a positive sense, as soon as it left my boot, that it was heading in."
'During in a Poor Run, All Seems to Go Against You'
Booing While We Are Still in Play Is Completely Unacceptable - Frank
Although Vicario's mistake led coverage, this was an overall bad day for Spurs to extend their home ground woes.
The match was their 10th at home loss of 2025 in the Premier League, a joint club statistic matching 1994 and two thousand and three.
They still have home games against the manager's former club Brentford and title holders Liverpool to play before the end of the year.
Just a single of those wins have occurred after Frank took over from his predecessor in the summer.
"When you're behind 2-0 after six minutes, there is a mountain to climb," said Frank.
"During in a bad spell, all aspects seems to go against you too – the opening was a deflected shot, the next is a error from the keeper.
"The outcome leaves us in a place where we have suffered another match. Each fixture has a single narrative, this game we were defeated in the early stages.
"We simply need to continue striving. The second half was significantly improved and hopefully an aspect we can use to develop."
Tottenham have been defeated in four consecutive home London derbies for the first time in the Premier League.
And they are averaging nine point five attempts and three point two efforts on goal per match in the division – their lowest averages on record in a single campaign (dating back to the 2003-04 season).
Former Cottagers midfielder Murphy stated that the manager has to endure the criticism.
"He must take the criticism," the pundit remarked. "He's taken a prestigious role at a huge football club with massive expectation. There is scrutiny and responsibility that accompanies that.
"Their showings at their stadium have been poor and they have to improve {quickly|
